In 1861 a few philanthropic Aberfeldy ladies formed themselves into a society for visiting the sick and poor and provided a soup kitchen and a "Home for the Sick" in the property currently know as Novar. This apartment forms the upper part of a 120 year old stone house close to the centre of the delightful market town of Aberfeldy in Home Street. The property was offered these well-meaning ladies to enable them to provide medical treatment to their patients by then affluent owner of the large nearby Killiechassie House, now JK Rowling's (of Harry Potter fame) residence. This original use of the building as a local hospital or "Home" gave the street it stands in its name.
Novar is a traditional well-built stone Victorian Scottish villa, the upper floor apartment of which has been sensitively and comprehensively renovated to create a warm, airy and welcoming self catering holiday apartment. The property is entered via is own front door to first floor level where you are immediately struck by its light and spacious interior where a creative touch has ensured that the house has been thoroughly modernised yet has retained its former charm and original features. The apartment has its own drive and a sunny, private, landscaped, rear garden and patio area with garden furniture by a lovely silver birch tree. There is secure on-site parking for up to three or four cars.
The apartment has a spacious lounge, which has been tastefully furnished with contemporary curtains and fabrics with pine furniture and a white leather suite. There is a wide screen TV and DVD, radio/CD player and the original pine mantle fireplace with flame effect gas fire providing a warm welcome to guests. The new lemon coloured kitchen with matching marble tiled floor has its own breakfast/dining area. It has been well designed with matching wall units and a large cooking range. This bright modern fully fitted kitchen has a gas hob, twin ovens, dishwasher, microwave, washing machine and fridge.
Novar has two large double bedrooms diagonally across the wide central vestibule from each other. The master bedroom has an ornate metal-framed king-size bed and the other has two single beds. The bedrooms both have cottage pine wardrobes and pine dressing tables with mirrors. Novar has one bathroom, in white tiling, with a whirlpool bath and over-bath shower. The cottage has double-glazing throughout and gas fired central heating radiators in every room. There is a payphone, which takes incoming calls. Payment for fuel is by meter reading at standard domestic rates based on actual meter rates on entry and at departure.
Home Street is a quiet street leading from the main street running east to west through Aberfeldy. Novar is some 100 yards from the main street and the shops, garage, bakery, delicatessen, pubs and restaurants in the town. The golf course, public parks, children’s’ play area, putting green, riverside and woodland walks are all within easy walking distance from the front door.
