                              Early Spring  Newsletter

If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind? Wrote that grand optimist Percy Birst Shelley and sure enough, as he predicted, the wingèd seeds (where they lie cold and low, each like a corpse within its grave, until the azure sister of the Spring shall blow) are starting to come to life. Spring is just around the corner and Old Man Winter can't hold out forever. He is now making way for the tender young shoots of spring.

The first sign of this happening in Highland Perthshire is the birds whistling much more cheerily than they have for a while and arrival of snowdrops which are amongst the first blossoms to emerge in the New Year.

In the mid 19th century soldiers in the Crimean War brought them back from the battlefields to plant in their gardens. Today they thrive throughout Scotland and, between 1st February and 16th March 2008, the gardens around Aberfeldy are pleased to be part of the second Scottish Snowdrop Festival.

If you can join us at Aberfeldy Cottages, than please find time to head outdoors and marvel at these floral gems in the clear winter light at the handy locations given below, you’ll find snowdrop after snowdrop, bringing brightness and magic to your day and relish the spectacular views of Highland Perthshire’s sparkling winter wonderland. You can  treat yourself to scrumptious home baked teas in Scotland's oldest country houses, stately homes and estates, some of which are open exclusively for the Scottish Snowdrop Festival.
