Mountain Rescue

The Highland Perthshire area contains world renowned scenery including the famous Scottish peaks of Schiehallion (1083m), Ben Lawers (1214m) and Ben Vrackie (841m). Hill waking in the Perthshire hills is a pleasurable midge free experience and where, due to its sheltering from the prevailing west wind, the weather quality is significantly better than areas further to the west and the north.

The hills can, howver, be dangerous at all times of the year, being subject to sudden changes in weather and temperature. You should always be suitably dressed for hill walking, carry spare food, an ordnance map and mobile phone and always leave enough time to return to to your car or accommodation before it gets dark.

There are 26 Scotland's Mountain Rescue Team stations and to find out where they are click here for for Rescue Team Locations. You should if you are in difficulty request assistance through the Police, by PHONING 999 and then ask for Mountain Rescue.

The mountain rescue teams are fully trained and equipped emergency response organisations. Their primary role being the provision of search and rescue in mountainous, or inhospitable terrain for any person who may be injured, or otherwise in need of assistance. This is done on behalf of and in conjunction with the Police. This service is provided at no cost to the person assisted, or to the person requesting the assistance.
